Spring Valley - Alta Josephine Miley of Spring Valley died Saturday, Jan. 13, 1996 at the Baldwin Hospital, Baldwin. She was 81.

She was born Jan. 3, 1915, the daughter of Martin and Bertha (Mithuen) Sorenson in Cady Township, St. Croix County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and a lifelong member of Wilson Lutheran Church, Wilson. She lived at Wilson until she was 15-years-old. She then moved to Eau Claire to live with her sister, Mabel Larson. She graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School in 1934.

While in Eau Claire she met George Miley and they married on September 22, 1936, and lived in Altoona for several years. They were blessed with a family of three children.

George died in 1945 at the age of
32. She continued to live near Eau Claire for a couple years before moving to rural Wilson in 1948. She and her children lived with her mother until 1958. At that time she moved to Spring Valley. For the past three years she was a resident of the Spring Valley Health Care Center.

While living in Eau Claire, she played Hawaiian guitar with local bands. The bands were sometimes broadcast over the radio. She was an active member of the Wilson Lutheran Church and worked for Spring Valley Drug for over 30 years.

Survivors include her two daughters, Sandra (Larry) Bune, Sharon (Duane) Nelson, all of Spring Valley; daughter-in-law Floy Miley of Baldwin; six grandsons; three granddaughters and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mabel Larson of Spring Valley; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Stringer and Delores Sorenson, both of Eau Claire; one brother-in-law, Richard (JoAnn) Miley of Chippewa Falls, many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death wre her parents, her husband, George; her son, M. Patrick Miley; a grandson, Trent Bune; and one brother, Lloyd Sorenson.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 1 p.m., at Wilson Lutheran Church, Spring Valley. Rev. Michael Main officiated with music provided by organist Carole Lynum and vocalist Dorla Holm. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire. Honorary bearers were Larry Bune, Duane Nelson, Mark Hagerness, Richard Miley, Ronald Fenner and Lester Jensen. Bearers were her grandsons, Jay, Brian and Brent Bune, Shaun and Aaron Miley and Carter Nelson.
