Tim Guidera was born into the well known Guidera family of Kildellig, Clough, Ireland, on October 29, 1924. One of eight children, Tim had his early schooling in the Primary
School, Aghaboe, where he attended from 1929 to 1938.

On the conclusion of his primary education, he left home to join the Religious Congregation of the Patrician Brothers at their Juniorate at Mount St. Joseph in Tullow, Co. Carlow. Here, he began his secondary education. He was Prefect of Juvenates during the year 1940 - 1941. He took his First Vows on August 15, 1942, taking the name Edwin, and completed his Leaving Certificate in 1943.

After a preliminary year of exposure to the classroom in Tullow, he qualified as a Primary Teacher at De La Salle Training College, Waterford. Brother Edwin then served in the Patrician Schools in Galway, Newbridge and Mallow until
1959.

The big move in Tim's life came in 1959, when he was assigned to join the budding branch of the Patrician Brothers in Southern California, where he was destined to spend the rest of his life.

He moved to Secondary Education and served in the schools run by the Brothers for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. His contribution as a teacher of English and Religious Studies spanned four schools and twenty seven years from 1959 to 1966.

During this time he also served two six year terms as the Provincial of the California Province of the Brothers. On his retirement from the classroom in 1986, his career did not end. Tim took over the long running Annual Fiesta on the grounds of the Novitiate at Midway City. He re-established it as the Annual St. Patrick's Day Family Festival.

Over a number of years, he and his very able committee developed it into the largest celebration of Irish culture in the State of California. In addition, his pride and joy was the establishment of a very popular pre-school and day care center at the Novitiate.

Unfortunately, with his advancing years and declining health, the pre-school had to be discontinued about 1990.

The St. Patrick's Day Festival continued until 2004, but was ceased after the guiding light was gone. Tim paid his last visit to his home area in September 2004, for an early celebration of his 80th birthday with his people at Kildellig and Dromard. He returned to California and died on November 30th, barely a month into his 81st year.
