Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Helen DuBois of Brooklyn and one son, Dr. John E. Schmidt who was engaged In practice with his father; also four brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Louise Warner. Wilhelmina A., Frank A. and Theodore W. Schmidt of Ilion; Dr. Robert Schmidt of Elmira and Mrs. Noel Sisson Bennett of Albany.

Dr. John A. Schmidt. M.D., D.D.S. one of the most prominent citizens of Brooklyn, died at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Dr. Schmidt suffered a severe illness, about two years ago, from which he never fully recovered. The deceased was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John V. Schmidt of Armory Street and was born in this village June 9, 1865. His early life was spent here and in 1888? he was graduated as a dental surgeon from the University of Pennsylvania and in 1898 from the Long Island Medical College. After his graduation from the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Schmidt practiced dentistry for a time on First street in this village, later moving to Brooklyn where he become prominent.
In 1889, he was married to Elsie Marie Steers, who died in 1911. The deceased is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Helen Du Bois, and a son, Dr. John E. Schmidt, who was engaged in practice with his father. He is also survived by four brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Louis E. Warner, Wilhelm A., Frank A., and Theodore W. Schmidt of Ilion, Dr. Robert Schmidt of Elmira and Mrs. Noel S. Bennett of Oriskany.
The remains will he brought to this village and the funeral held from the Schmidt homestead, Armory Street, at a time to be announced after the arrangements are completed. Utica Herald Dispatch, Thursday, October 20, 1921
