"I'm Jesse's 4x's great-daughter. I grew up being told about that part of my family, Jesse, Mary & their 4 children, moved by covered wagon to Huntsville, AL, in 1829. It's true they lost several children very young but there were some that lived long lives. Hamon lived for one month; Susan C. (my 3 x's great-grandmother) lived to be 74; John died at one day old; Eliza died at 87; David died at one day old; Ann died at 9 years old; Hiram lived to be an adult and married; Phebe died at 22 days old; Elvira died at 3 days old. Susan C. also had issues with her children dying very young. All of the names and dates that I have were kept in a family bible that was passed down several generations. Jesse died on May 30, 1875 and Mary died on Nov. 11, 1881, both in Huntsville, AL.
Harmon was named after his mother's father "Harmon Cook". I found records that said Hiram Oakes died in the War with Mexico. He enlisted on May 1, 1847."
