University of Missouri graduate. Assisted her husband Harlow Shapley (1885-1972) in astonomical research at Mount Wilson Observatory. Published extensively on astronomy, particularly exploding stars; some of her works are: Study of the Light-Curve of XX Cygni (with Harlow Shapley, 1915); Color-Curve of XZ Cygni, (1917); and, Orbit of the Eclipsing Binary T W Andromedae (1922).
