MILL HALL--Violet W. Long, 76, of R.R.1 Mill Hall, died Monday, March 11, 1996 at her residence after a lengthy illness.
Born Feb. 20, 1920 in Juniata County, shw was the daughter of the late Stanley and Grace Stydinger Whitesel
She was united in marriage Jan 10, 1946 in Mill Hall to J. Nathan Long, who survives. This past January they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
She was a very active member of the Cedar Heights Brethren In Christ Church in Mill Hall and with the Pioneer Girls Christian Club. She was also a key contact person for the Messiah Village Church Retirement Home in Mechanicsburg. She was a deacon's wife for a number of years.
In her younger years, she worked at the former Clinton Paper Company in Lock Haven and at Ames Department Store. For a number of years she owned and operated her own craft shop in Mill Hall, known as Viloet's Gifts and Crafts.
Her hobbies included crafts and knitting, and she was a member of the Dorcas Sewing Circle affiliated with Clinton and Centre counties.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are four sons, Gerald S Long and Richard W. Long of RR 1 Mill Hall, Dennis E Long of Logan Mills and Barry A Long of Harrisburg, two daughters, Mrs Charles (Rita) Herr of RR Mill Hall and Rosalie A Long at home, a brother, Rodney Whitesel of Halifax, two sisters, Miriam Yoder of Kalona, Iowa and Doris Kilmer of RR Lock Haven and 11 grandchildren
She was preceded in death in 1973 by a brother Alfred Whitesel.
