After Protracted Illness, Mrs. Albertine Schneider Adoue Passes Away

Mrs. Albertine Schneider Adoue, widow of the late Bertrand Adoue and one of Galveston's most prominent women, died at her home, 1526 Postoffice street, yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. She had been ill for more than a year. Her son, L. A. Adoue; daughter, Mrs. J. W. Crowdus of El Paso, and sister, Mrs. T. Vogel of Fort Worth, were at the bedside when the end came.

Mrs. Adoue was 67 years old, having been born in New Orleans, May 30, 1850. Her maiden name was Albertine Schneider. In 1871 she was married to Bertrand Adoue, who was at that time head of a bank at Calvert. Mr. and Mrs. Adoue lived at Calvert three years after their marriage and in 1874 moved to Galveston. Here both took a leading part in the commercial, civic and charitable institutions of the city.

Until recently Mrs. Adoue was actively interested in the organization and development of Trinity Church choir. She was also an active worker in the Trinity Church Guild until failing health prevented her active participation in the affairs of this organization.

Mrs. Adoue is survived by three children – L. A. Adoue, Mrs. J. W. Crowdus of El Paso and Mrs. G. F. Mcfarland of Toronto, Canada – and one sister, Mrs. T. Vogel of Fort Worth. Mrs. McFarland is at present in England. Her husband is a colonel serving with the Canadian forces in France.

The funeral, which will be private, will be held at the residence this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, Rev. Samuel G. Porter, rector of Grace Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will be made in the family burying plot in Cahill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Percy Holt, Charles Holt, Charles Fowler Jr., Paul Lobit, J. H. Langben, Judge Clay Stone Briggs, George Sealy and R. Lee Kempner.
