John W. Losse Jr. 1916 ~ 2008 John William Losse Jr., "Jack," was born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 16, 1916 to John William and Claire Schmedtje Losse, the oldest of four. He died of natural causes on June 19, 2008.Jack grew and thrived in St. Louis with many lifelong friends. He was a fine swimmer, horseman and student. He spent three summers in the Black Horse Troop at Culver Military Academy and paraded with the Troop in 1933 at the Chicago World's Fair. He graduated from Washington University where he pledged Phi Delta Theta and made many more friends. Jack then attended Harvard Business School and graduated with an MBA in 1939. He then joined his father and grandfather at the J.W. Losse Tailoring Company, one of St. Louis' oldest. He received his commission as Ensign in the Supply Corps of the United States Navy in May 1941. In September of that year he returned to Harvard to attend Naval Supply School. He served as a Supply Officer on the USS Sicard and achieved the rank of Lt. Cmdr. Jack married Marjorie West Penney on March 7, 1942. Their marriage was long and joyful. In 1955 they ventured west with five young children and settled in Salt Lake, where Jack began his career in the mining business, setting up the financial, accounting and personnel structure for Uranium Reduction Company. He later worked as a financial executive for American Zinc and Federal Resources Corporation. Committed to friends and community, he served many worthwhile causes with passion and integrity. He was a Big Brother, an active Episcopalian, often on the Vestry and on numerous Diocesan committees. He was a member of the boards of Travelers Aid Society and the Arthritis Foundation. He was a member of The Salt Lake Country Club, the Saint Louis Club and a past President of The Alta Club.
