Mrs. Martha Hicks, wife of R. Spence Hicks, the owner of the former Hicks Chevrolet firm in Decatur and Decatur Utility Board member, died Sunday.
Graveside service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery, the Rev. W.K. Stephenson and the Rev. A.B. VanArsdale officiating, with Brown Service Funeral Home handling arrangements.
Mrs. Hicks is survived by her husband; a grandson, Perry S. Hicks of Decatur; three sisters, Mrs. J.C. Upshaw and Mrs. M.T. Braswell, both of Atlanta; and Mrs. C.J. Conn of Augusta, Ga.
Pallbearers will be Wilson Taylor, Wilson Morgan, John Eyster, Julian Morris, Dick Watkins, George Godwin, Gerald Neher, John Washburn and Frank Wiley.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Decatur Investment Club, Rotary Club, the Utilities Board, managers and staff of Decatur Utilities, former officers and staff of the Hicks Chevrolet Co and Dr. Leon Cochran and Dr. Charles Burt.
Mrs. Hicks was a resident of Decatur for 33 years and was a member of First Baptist Church. She was married for 56 years.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
The family requests that memorials be made to a favorite charity.

Martha L. Perry married Robert Spence Hicks in Georgia. She was the daughter of Josiah (Joe) Patterson Perry Jr. and Pearl Barnett Perry. Joe and Pearl Perry had the following children- Winnie, Brownie, John, Martha, Robert and Ruby.

Her body was moved to Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Alabama and placed in the Mausoleum.
