Ernest R. Crane, 66, veteran Denison bakery owner, died Thursday at 8:50 pm at a local hospital after four days of illness. Crane underwent major surgery Wednesday after carrying on his bakery work as late as last Monday.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:30 pm at Bratcher Funeral Home with Rev S. J. Wylie of the First Presbyterian Chruch and Rev Jesse Pugh of the First Christian Church officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7:30 pm until 8:30 pm.
Member of a pioneer Denison bakery family, Crane was born in Denison September 19, 189, and lived here all his life. He worked with his grandfather in the bakery business before operating his own bakery, which he had operated more than 40 years. The plant is located and Main and Mirick and formerly was at 407 West Main for many years.
Crane received his schooling here and married Miss Ellen Marie Burch on November 19, 1922. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Eagles and Masonic groups, including Lone Star Lodge, the Chapter, Council and Knights Templar. The Masons will conduct graveside rites. The family home is at 610 West Chestnut.
Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Herman L. Miller, Austin, Texas and Mrs. James R. Hayden, San Antonio, Texas, and four grandchildren.
