12th Premier of Ontario. A member of the Ontario Liberal Party, he served in this position from October 1942 until May 1943. He received his formal education at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where he studied law, passed the Bar in 1912, and practiced law in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. He soon entered politics, serving as Oshawa's mayor from 1916 to 1917. He then focused his efforts on the development of hydro-electric power in Ontario that led to the province establishing control of its own electrical system. In 1937 he was elected to Ontario's Legislative Assembly and was appointed Attorney General by Premier Mitchell Hepburn. Following Hepburn's sudden resignation, Conant was chosen to replace him. However, his term lasted only until the following May as he resigned due to the internal strife of Liberal Party, following their demand for a leadership convention, and he was succeeded by Harry Nixon. He then left politics and from 1943 until 1951 he served as Master of the Supreme Court of Ontario. He died at the age of 67.
