John was born in Holland, Dubois county Indiana July 12, 1853 to Christian Friedrich (b1817 Germany-1895 Indiana) and Ann Katharine Hellene Wibbeler (b1813 Germany-1891 Indiana).

He married Sophia Lammers October 23, 1877 in Dubois county Indiana; they had 4 children [Caroline 'Carrie' b1878, Daniel Christian b.1880, William Henry b.1882 and Ann Mary b.1884]. Sophia died at the age of 29, November 26, 1885.

Sixteen months later he married Mary Catherine Sakel (b. 1867) March 13, 1887 in Pike county Indiana. She was born to Heinrich 'Henry' Johann Daniel and Maria Catherine Elisabeth (Todrank) Sakel. They had 7 children [Jesse Edward b.1888, Otto Benjamin b.1889, Conrad Edwin b.1892, August Herman b.1895, Leonard Wesley b.1897, Alvin Earl b.1899 and Florence Selma b.1902].

In 1896-1900 they live in Huntingburg Indiana; he runs a Dry Goods store.

The 1910, 1920 and 1930 census reports show they live in Evansville; he works for a Broom company. Mary died July 23, 1937 at home and John died of a cerebral hemorrhage at 1710 S. Garvin about 11 months later; Source www.evansvillegov.org
