James Lee Stowers, 79, of Liberty, TN attended Brandon High School before joining the merchant marines in 1945 at the age of sixteen. He then enlisted with the US Marine Corps in 1948, serving in the Korean War. He was a long haul truck driver most of his adult life working for Eastern Express, Artim trucking, and Roadway Express where he received awards for over one million miles of safe driving. During the 1970's, he was a deputy sheriff for the Porter county Sheriff's department with his own K-9. Dad loved his animals and had his own mini zoo that he always complained about but you could never take it away from him. He is survived by his wife, Jan Stowers; children, Jan (Ronnie) Tucker, Patricia Poling, Don (Debbie) Poling, William (Sandy) Poling, Richard Poling, Ken Stowers, and stepson, Keith Redfern; brother, Dick (Raymetta) Stowers, Tony Knox, 7 grandchildren, 1 great- granddaughter, numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Interment in Nashville National Cemetery, in Madison, TN.
