Annie Gertrude (Ann) Holladay Mathews, our special mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and sister, was called home peacefully on January 17, 1995 of natural causes.
She was born May 13, 1905 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Annie G.Thompson Holladay and George T. Holladay, the second oldest of eight children. Married Alton J. Mathews of Nevada, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in June 1924. He preceded her in death in May 1946.
She was a licensed practical nurse at the VA Hospital, Hill Field, LDS Hospital, and Holy Cross Hospital. Active in the LDS Church her whole life. She had a beautiful singing voice, singing in many performances.
Survived by two daughters and one son, JoAnn Mathews Anderson (Bruce H.), Salt Lake City; Donna Mathews Wierz (Eric), West Covina, California; and Donald J. Mathews (Mary), Yuma, Arizona and Salt Lake City; ten grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, James Eugene Holladay, Salt Lake City; Hollis Holladay (Madeline), Bountiful; Don T. Holladay (LaVon), Tooele; one sister, June Anderson (Dean), Corona, California. Preceded in death by three brothers, LeRoy, Gerald, and Loring Holladay.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks for the superb and loving care given Ann by the staff of Sandy Regional Rehabilitation & Convalescent Center.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 20, 1995 at 2:00 p.m. in the Larkin Mortuary Chapel, 260 East South Temple Street, where friends may call one hour prior to the services.
Interment: Salt Lake City Cemetery.
