Don passed away on May 24, 2011 at the home of his daughter, surrounded by family.

Born December 2, 1926 in Salt Lake City, raised in Panaca, NV, to Alton J. and Annie Gertrude Holladay Mathews. Don worked at U.P. Railroad as a fireman. He served in the U.S. Army. He met the love of his life, Mary, and they were married on January 16, 1948. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 11, 1958.

He then worked for Knudsen Building Supply. His trucking career started with Garrett, Browning, Ringsby, IML, PIE, Salt Creek, and Fred Meyers. Donald and Mary served an LDS service mission to the local Cambodian ward. After retiring from driving trucks, they sold their home and became snowbirds. They spent winter in Yuma AZ, and summers being hosts at the Nephi KOA. His patience while caring for Mary through Alzheimer's was extraordinary. She passed away on July 9, 2005. He was truly heart broken and lonely.

Donald is survived by his children, John (Carolynn), Don A (Linda), Duane (Ana), Greg (Melanie), and MaryJane (Eric); twenty-six grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; and sister, JoAnn. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, son Craig, and sister, Donna.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2011 in the Copperhill Ninth Ward Chapel, 4333 South 6400 West. A viewing will be held two hours prior to the services at the church.
Interment will be in the Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road (1700 West).
