HAGERSTOWN -- Gregory "Greg" Jarrett, 43, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, June 1, [2005] in Reid Hospital, Richmond, following a long-illness.

He was born in Richmond on Sept. 22, 1961, the son of Roderic "Rod" and Deborah Joann Foust Jarrett, and was a lifelong resident of Hagerstown.

Greg had been a district manager of Gas America and attended New Life Holiness Church.

He served as board member, chief umpire, announcer and scorekeeper for Hagerstown Little League and as Web page facilitator for Hagerstown and District 6 Little League. He completed professional baseball umpire school, however, his illness prevented him from continuing active participation as a major league umpire.

Along with his wife he was former owner of Pony Express Pizza in Hagerstown and a former member of Hagerstown Lions Club.

Greg is survived by his wife of 24 years, Kathy; his mother, Deborah Joann Jarrett; a brother, Jeff Jarrett (Irene); a sister, Diana Moore; 13 nieces and nephews, who held a special place in his heart; and his canine buddies, Ebony and Rowdy.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by grandparents, Eugene and Elizabeth Foust, Cleo and Christine Jarrett, and a stepgrandmother, Cleo Foust.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 6, in the Hagerstown Park. Pastor Ron Coleman will officiate. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday in Culberson Funeral Home. Casual attire for the funeral service is suggested.
