Funeral Services for Coleta Newton, 75, of Bangs, Texas will be held 3:00 P.M. Thursday, January 20, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Bangs with Rev. Pepper Dill officiating. Interment will follow in the Bangs Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Coleta Ann was born August 2, 1935 in Indian Creek, Texas to George Monroe and Lillie Florence Olson Allen. She graduated as the valedictorian from Bangs High School in 1953 and was a lifetime member of the First Baptist church in Bangs where she taught Sunday school. Coleta was gifted with a beautiful voice and started singing at an early age. She sang at many funerals, weddings and other events throughout her life.

For over forty years she served in the banking industry. She was employed by Southwest State Bank, First State Bank and retired as branch manager of the Mills County State Bank. A community leader she was a past member of the Brownwood and Early Chamber of Commerce, Home Builders Association, and was very involved in United Way and other community organizations

Coleta will also be remembered for being a caretaker, writing poetry, her love for the outdoors, gardening and her love for her family and especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband A.J. Newton of Thrifty, Texas; sons Terry Newton and wife Diane of Bangs, Texas, Brent Newton and wife Pennie of Bangs, Texas, Mark Newton and wife Sheila of Electra, Texas; daughter Cindy Shaw and husband Joe of Brownwood, Texas; grandchildren Cody Newton, Chad Newton and wife Haley, Cristen Blackwell and husband Jim, Shan Newton, Carly Newton, Britney Hardin and husband Kyle, Jason Newton and wife Brittany, Jeremy Newton and wife LaKrisha; great grandchildren: Joey Newton, Kylee Newton and Taylor Hardin; brother Berna Allen and wife Ramona of Tulsa, Oklahoma, sister Wanda Prince of Austin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers.
