Charles Walter Mitchell was born to Amelia Mitchell on June 10, 1850 in Butler, Taylor County, GA. Charles married Irena Taswell on February 2, 1882 in Cass County, TX.

The 1900 census finds Charles and Irena Mitchell, landowners -- farming on 80 acres on land in Powderly, Lamar County, TX with their children Jessie, Anna Mae, Sammy, and C.W. Daughter Carrie lived in Dallas, TX with Robert and Mary Lawrence (Mary was a Taswell relative). Between 1910 and 1920, Sammy and C.W. died of small pox.

By 1923, the Mitchells lived with their daughter Carrie and son in law Warren Alston, in Omaha, NE. Irena passed away in 1923.

Grandpa Mitchell was described as a talented musician. While not ordained, he often served as an itinerant minister, and was listed in the 1930 census as a minister at the Bethel Baptist Church in South Omaha.

Charles W. Mitchell died on June 29, 1933 in Des Moines, IA, while staying with his daughter Anna May Mitchell Graham. His body was shipped to Omaha for funeral services and he was buried on July 1, 1933 at Graceland Park Cemetery.
