Mr. Starkey was born Feb. 4, 1924, in Wheeling, W.Va. He moved to Lakewood, Strongsville, Grafton Township and was a resident at Villa Camillus Nursing Home in Columbia Township for the past two years. Herbert retired as the head custodian for McKinley Elementary School in Lakewood. He enjoyed camping and was a member of the Shastaneers Camper Group.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Charlotte (nee Richner); daughter, Bonnie (Tim) Adams of Grafton Township; grandson, Christian (Suzanne nee Dearth) Adams of Litchfield Township; and great-grandson, Gage Carlos Dearth Adams of Litchfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bertha Sharkey of West Virginia; sister, Mildred Starkey of West Virginia; and brother, Arthur Starkey of Michigan.
A private family burial will be held in Belden Cemetery, Grafton Township.
Visiting hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bauer Funeral Home, Valley City.
