Elva Beal, ARCO, Dies

ARCO -- Mrs. Elva J. Beal, 79, a resident of the Lost River community, who was prominent in civic and social activities, died Friday at a local hospital after a long illness.

She was born in Circleville, Utah Nov. 4, 1892, the daughter of Joseph W. and Addie Morrill Johnson.

She attended grade school at Rich field, Utah. She married Erin T. Beal at the Manti, Utah LDS Temple, Nov. 8, 1911. They resided in Richfield until moving to Lost River in 1918, where they were engaged in farming. Mr. Beal died in August, 1935.

She was active in all organizations of the LDS Churtch work, ward and stake, was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and the Cultural Arts Club. She was active in donating her musical talents as well.

For many years she taught piano and organ to persons in the area. After the family was grown, she was known in the area for her culinary abilities, making special cakes, candies and bakes items. She was recognized as a "Mother of the Year" to Butte County.

Surviving are two sons, Richard E. Beal of Moore; J. Burns Beal of Boise; three daughters, Mrs. Wallace (Beth) Thayn of Emmett, Idaho; Mrs. Charles (Roma) Moses of Blackfoot; Mrs. Mertin (Irene) Hawkes of Blackfoot; five sisters, Mrs. Alleen Iverson of San Diego, California; Mrs. Ora Lewwis of Fresno, California and 29 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren.

Two brothers and a grandson preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the Lost River Ward Chapel, with Bishop L. Vaughn Jensen officiating.

Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Arco. Friends may call at the Marvel Memorial Chapel in Arco Sunday afternoon and evening and from 11 a. m. until service time Monday at the Lost River Ward Chapel.
