Obituary Waddell.
Died, at her home near Baraboo, Wis., Sunday, June 29, 1902, of a complication of diseases, Selena C., wife of Henry Waddell, aged 61 years, 8 months and 20 days. Miss Selena Charlotte Harsiem was born Oct. 9, 1840, in the state of Virginia, and when she was a mere child her parents emigrated west, residing at Milwaukee for several years, finally settling in Sauk County, near Baraboo. July 12th, 1857, she was united in marriage to Henry Waddell of the same place, who survives her. Nine children were born to them, all of whom are now living. They are Mrs. Martha Capener of Caledonia; Mrs. Lizzie Kerber of Menomonie, Wis.; Mrs. Ida Thorne of Creston, Wash.; Chas. W. of Waukesha; William, Edward, Pearl, George, and Miss Nellie, all of Baraboo. About twenty-fve years ago she united with the Seventh Day Adventist church at Baraboo, and always looked forward with joy to the time when she would meet her Saviour, and although she suffered much during her last illness, this comforting thought sustained her and shed a light across the dark pathway she was so soon to tread. She realized for many days previous that she must go and her mind was clear until death claimed her.
Her brothers and sisters who survive her are William Harsiem of White, S. D.: Yoss Harsiem of Baraboo; Mrs. Margaret Curry of Baraboo, and Mrs. Gertie Ernst of Boulder, Colorado. We feel sad to lay our dear mother and sister in the cold dark tomb, but we rejoice to know that those cruel fetters will be broken, and if faithful to that same trust, which sustained her, we will again meet her, where death has no more dominion. God has promised that "They shall come again from the land of the enemy." Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 1, at the Seventh Day Adventist church at Baraboo, presided over by Elder F. Peterson of the same denomination, from Hosea 13:14. "I will ransom them from the power of the grave. I will redeem them from death. O death, I will be thy plagues, O grave, I will be thy destruction." May God impress upon us the importance of a thorough preparation for that journey through the valley of the shadow of death, and when comes that glorious morn of the resurrection, when the fetters of the tomb will be burst asunder, may we meet our loved ones to be parted no more forever. God grant it."
