Robert Louis Bruce, 60, of 1531 Canfield St., died May 13, 1991 in Ontario, Oregon of a respiratory illness.

Robert was born May 11, 1931 in Blue Eye, Missouri to Ewing and Pearl Bruce. He was raised by his great uncle and great aunt, William and Pearl Lanning in Weiser, Idaho. He married Susan J. Vankat in 1962 in Elko, Nevada. In 1964 they moved to Eau Claire, where he purchased Eau Claire News Company from J. A. Vankat. He owned and operated Eau Claire News Co. Inc. until 1981, when he retired in 1981.

Survivors included his wife Susan; his son Craig, of Superior; his daughter, Caroline, of Santa Ana, Calif.; and his sister, Lucille Tidyman, of Seligman, MO.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Friday at First Congregational Church in Eau Claire. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made in his name to Hazelden foundation, Development Office, P.O. Box 11, Center City, Minn. 55012 or to L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library.
