Joe W. Hill, 72, of Inverness, Florida, died Friday, May 20, 2011, at Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville, Florida. He was born June 27, 1938, to the late Charles Graham and Pauline (Tabor) Hill in Huntsville and New Hope, Alabama. Mr. Hill was a retired chief warrant officer with the U.S. Army with 20 years of honorable service. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, enlisting as a medic. He then served with the Special Forces and was trained to fly helicopters in the Army Aviation School. He was involved in 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. He received many awards and commendations, including 3 Purple Hearts. He enjoyed his retirement that included riding his bicycle, bird watching and researching the Civil War and other military history.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tabor Hill, and a favorite nephew, Graham Hill. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Debra Hill of Inverness; two sons, Joe W. Hill Jr. (Angel) of Huntsville, AL, and Phillip R. Hill (Kimberly) of Chincoteague, VA; his adored granddaughter, Arella; other nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Tori.
Private cremation arrangements are under the direction of Strickland Funeral Home of Crystal River, FL, with inurnment to take place at Arlington National Cemetery.
