A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, in Central Lutheran Church for Walter R. Grande, who died Aug. 13 at age 72.
Mr. Grande was born July 8, 1927, in Portland. He graduated from Commerce High School and the University of Oregon. He worked for the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy and Burlington Northern railroads for 33 years, retiring in 1983. Mr. Grande wrote and contributed to articles and books on railroad history, including "The Northwest's Own Railway" about the SP&S. He also had been an officer of railroad historical societies. He was a member of the church. In 1957, he married Louise Larsen.
Survivors include his wife; son, David B. of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter, Diana M. Renn of Beaverton; and two grandchildren.
Interment was in Lone Fir Cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to Central Lutheran Church Foundation, the library fund of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society or the SP&S Railway Museum in Vancouver, Wash. Arrangements are by Zeller Chapel of the Roses.
