Carl Walter Mayes Sr., 78, of Clinton, died Monday, June 3, 2002, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born Dec. 8, 1923, in Rogersville, the son of Ruth and Harve Mayes.
Mr. Mayes was a member of Plumbers / Pipefitters Local No 102 of Knoxville for over 50 years.
He had worked for H.K. Ferguson and also for Rust Engineering.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Clinton and he was a 32nd degree Mason and member of Clinton Alpha Lodge No. 376.
Mr. Mayes' family said he loved fishing and his dogs, Caesar and Mollie, and his cat, Shuster.
His wife of 51 years, Blanche Mayes, died earlier.
He is survived by his son, C.W. Mayes and his wife, Rhonda, of Andersonville; two daughters, Pat Mayes Albertini and her husband, Joe, of Andersonville, and Doris "Doodles" Mayes of Clinton; his sister, Shelby Jean Spears of Shelton, Wash.; and his brother, Roy Lee Mayes and his wife, Kathrine, of Portland, Ore.
Mr. Mayes is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael Davis and his wife, Carrie, Michelle Davis Manning and her husband, Mark, Walter Neal Mayes and his wife, Amanda, Manda Mayes Pyatt and her husband, Jonathan, Robert Daniel Mayes, and Elizabeth Albertini Moore and her son, Jared; and one great-granddaughter, Victoria Suzanne Pyatt. Ora and Bonny Austin of Deer Lodge were considered special friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Mayes was preceded in death by three brothers, John Harve Mayes Jr., Charles Mayes and Woodrow Mayes.
A graveside service will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 6, at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Clinton with the Rev. Paul Frick officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, June 5, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.
