Ardella Blanche Casteel Griffin passed away Sunday, September 26, 2004, at the age of 92 years and 9 months. She was preceded in death by four siblings and her husband, Elmer Griffin, who died March 31, 1959.

Ardella Blanche Casteel Griffin was born in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, on December 26, 1911, to Fred and Mabel Casteel. She spent her childhood traveling throughout Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico and as far as Oregon with her pioneer family. She moved to Colorado Springs from the eastern plains in the 1930's where she met and married her husband on January 4, 1939 and set up housekeeping, and raised four children.

She pursued a nursing career and worked at Memorial Hospital for 20 years and then at the Air Force Academy Hospital for 20 years. Upon retirement at the age of 70, she still had energy to spare, so she became a home health care nurse for 13 years, as well as taking care of several of her grandchildren. Nearly all who knew her remember her fondly as Gams.

She was a faithful member of the West Pikes Peak Church of Christ.

Ardella will be deeply missed by her family:
a surviving sister
four children,
nine grandchildren,
seven greatgrandchildren:
and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Her grandchildren remembered her as

• Strong willed (even "stubborn")
• Environmentally friendly (She was recycling before we knew the word!)
• Generous especially with her family
• Determined (Widowed at age 48 with four children ranging from 11 to 17 years, who carefully provided for not only basic needs but much else beside.)
