Mr. Coody was born November 26, 1926 in Dodge County, Ga. He lived on and added to a farm started by his great-great grandfather, Archibald B. Coody in 1847. He was the son of the late Vesta Harrison Coody and the late Rufus Forehand Coody. He graduated from Hawkinsville High School in 1943 and attended the University of Georgia where he was president of the freshman class. He served two years in the U.S. Navy Air Corp. during WW11. Mr. Coody farmed for 43 years in Dodge County where he was named Young Farmer of the Year in 1960 and also first runner up as Young Farmer of the Year in the state. Robert was Man-Of-The-Year in soil and water conservation in 1967. He was Dodge County Outstanding Farmer of the Year in 1970. Mr. Coody helped organize and served on the Board of Trustees of Baker Academy. He helped organize and served on the Board of Farmers Peanut Company. He was on the Production Farm Credit Board for 32 years having served as chairman for 21. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Federal Farm Credit Retirement Fund for Employees in Columbia, S.C.. Mr. Coody was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was very involved in the leadership of the church, serving in many capacities.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter, Thomas Randolph Coody (Joni) of Hawkinsville, Ga, and Bruce Forehand Coody (Susan) of Houston Texas, Dinah Coody Childers of Perry, Ga., sister, Corrine Coody Bolin of Americus, Ga, sister-in-law, Margaret Hurst Coody of Vienna, Ga,; grandchildren, Robert Andrew Coody, Harris Brinson Coody, Asa Randolph Coody, Adam Michael Childers, Benjamin Thomas Childers, Colby Taylor Childers, Maggie Coody Griffin (David), Abbye Leigh Coody, Claire Virginia Coody hilders, Megan Skye Coody, Rhyan Austin Coody, and hase Robert Coody. Pallbearers will be grandsons along with Johnny Bembry and immy Coody. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Clark Funeral Home. Clark Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
