JOHN SMITHSON John E. Smithson, long-time resident of Hood River, died on Tuesday, January 31, in Eugene following a brief illness. Mr. and Mrs. Smithson resided for many years in Hood River where he was employed by and later became president of the Oregon-Washington Telephone company. Retiring in 1930, the family went for a time to Seattle, then to Eugene.
The Smithsons were active in the Asbury Methodist church of Hood River and at the time of his passing he was still a member of the Hood River lodge, AF&AM as well as the local Royal Arch Chapter.
Surviving John Smithson are his widow, Mildred Smithson, of Eugene; three daughters, Mrs. Joseph H. Irwin of Great Falls, Montana, Mrs. John W. Schulz of Puyallup, Washington, and Mrs. Carl Shuster of Ordnance, Oregon; two sisters, Mrs. W. S. Finney of Hood River, and Mrs. O. N. Gravgaard of Hawick, Minnesota.
