Vida Evelyn Bagwell, age 84, of Springfield, MO, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2011 in Springfield Rehabilitation. She was born February 19, 1927, in Blanche, Mo., to William and Ethel (Hicks) Riley. She was united in marriage to Eldon R. Bagwell on June 3, 1944 in Columbus, Kansas.

She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church where she actively served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and Ladies Auxiliary member. Evelyn Retired from the Springfield Public School system after 22 years. She will be remembered as a great cook and an avid gardener who grew beautiful flowers. She loved fishing, painting, and good gospel singing; but her greatest loves were her church, family, and her dog, Angel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon Bagwell; parents, William Riley and Ethel Walker; one sister, Lena Ruth Hendrix; three brothers, Lemuel (Buster) Riley, Robert Riley, William (Bill) Riley; and her beloved dog, Angel.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Brazeal and husband Roderick of Clever, Mo. and Evelyn Kay Summerfield and husband, Bill of Palm Coast, FL; one son, Eldon Ray Bagwell and wife, Betty of Lebanon MO; four grandchildren, Aleshia Garrison, Angela Summerfield, Erin Cook, and Riley Bagwell; three great- grandchildren, Lachele Schulze, Quentin Garrison, and Zachary Garrison; one brother, Carroll Riley; seven sisters, Lorene Robertson, Ethel Mae Versaw, Anna Adams, Lou Zona Hartin, Delphia Virginia Taylor, Beverly Jean Meredith, and Shirley Twitty; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 23, 2011, in First Freewill Baptist Church with Pastors Alvin Hook and Don Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Springfield, MO. Visitation will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2011 in Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association or First Freewill Baptist Building Fund.
