Wayne Hamilton
A poet, teacher, father, husband, grandfather, traveler, genealogist -- with a bright mind and a wicked sense of humor, has passed from our midst. Wayne Hamilton was born in Los Angeles, California on October 3, 1934 and died of renal cancer on December 29, 2003, surrounded by those who loved him.
Wayne's passion for teaching and working with youth led he and his family to jobs spanning the globe, including Idaho, California, Pakistan, England, Russia, and finally to Washington State. After teaching in Clallum Bay for four years, Wayne spent the remainder of his career in Everett teaching students at Evergreen Middle School and Heartherwood Middle School for a great number of years. He touched the lives of many students and enjoyed hearing updates of their lives.
After retiring five years ago Wayne and his wife continued to travel the world until Wayne became debilitated with incurable kidney cancer.
Wayne is survived by his wife and best friend, Carol and their three children, Shannon M. (Gerry) Laliberte, Tommilyn M. (Bob) Amos and Stephen Hamilton; three grandchildren, Eric,16, Marc, 13, and Nicole 8, Laliberte who will truly miss their grandfather.
The service will take place on Friday, January 2, at 2:00pm at Holyrood Cemetery, 205 NE 205th, Shoreline, WA 98155. All friends, colleagues, and former students are welcome to come and celebrate Wayne's life and to perhaps share a story. A gathering will follow at the Hamilton home immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the U of W Cancer Research Medical Center, Attn: Noreen Boyd, Box 356043, 1959 NE Pacific St, Seattle, WA 98195.
