“Mrs. Koen De Jong was born at Pella in 1852. Funeral services for Mrs. Koen De Jong were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Sterrenberg, and at 2 o’clock from the First Reformed church with Rev. H. Colenbrander officiating.
Mrs. De Jong passed away Monday morning at 10 o’clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Sterrenberg, following an illness of about three months.
Pietertje Van Zee was born at Pella in 1852. In March 1871, she was married to Koen De Jong and moved to Sioux county. With the exception of the last ten weeks which she spent with her daughter, Mrs. De Jong spent the last five years at the Pioneer Memorial Home.
Her husband preceded her in death in January, 1921. Surviving are five sons and three daughters as follows: Stephen De Jong, Orange City; Dr. Conrad De Jong, Grand Rapids, Mich; Mrs. H. I. Muilenburg, Orange City; Mrs. J. Newendorp, Alton; Henry De Jong, Orange City; Gerrit De Jong, Tacoma, Wash; Joe K. De Jong, Sheldon; and Mrs. Chas. Sterrenberg of Orange City. Brothers and sisters who survive include Mrs. A. Grandia, J. R. Van Zee and Govert Van Zee, all of Pella; Mrs. D. Van Zante of Portland, Oregon and Mrs. G. L. Vande Steeg, Orange City.”
