Vera's first husband was Leonard Wilcox, who died from influenza in 1918. She later married Elbert Chauncey Luce and had three of his children (Beverly Hope, Betty Jane and Clayton Elbert). At the time of Bert's death, he and Vera were estranged.

The funeral of Mrs Vera Luce of Freeville who died in Cortland Memorial Hospital was held at 2 pm Feb 22, in the Perkins Funeral Home, Dryden. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Richford.

She is survived by a son, Clayton Luce of Freeville; two daughters, Mrs B Elles [Beverly Luce Ellis] of Freeville and Mrs B Barker [Betty Luce Barker] of Wabash, Ind; a step-son, William Luce, and a step-daughter, Mrs Louise Martin, both of Berkshire; a sister, Mrs Elizabeth Woodard of Geneva; two brothers, Clifford Thomas of Syracuse and Earl Thomas of Richford; nine grandchildren, several nieces and nephews."

"MRS. VERA LUCE, AGED 58, EXPIRES

Mrs. Vera Luce, 58, of Freeville, died unexpectedly this morning, shortly after being admitted to Cortland Memorial Hospital. She is survived by a son Clayton of Freeville; two daughters, Mrs. Beverly Ellis, Freeville, and Mrs. Betty Barker, Wabash, Ind.; a step-son, William Luce; and a step daughter, Mrs. Louise Martin, both of Berkshire; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Woodard, Geneva; two brothers, Clifford Thomas, Syracuse and Earl Thomas of Richford; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Luce was born in Richford, April 25, 1898. For many years, she owned and operated the Luce Nursing Home at Freeville.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete."
