"The Carnesville Herald and Advance", dated Thursday September 26, 1929:

Mr. Wm. P. Carson Passes to Beyond:

In the death of Mr. William P. Carson, Franklin County loses one of its most honored and worthy citizens. Death came to him in his home in Ashland Saturday afternoon, Sept. 21 after an illness of more than a year. He contracted the flu last year and could never overcome it. He was 84 years old and had been active until his last illness.

Mr. Carson was born and reared in the community in which he died and no citizen was held in higher respect than was he. He enlisted in the Confederate Army at an early age and served to the end of the conflict with distinction to himself and to the cause he represented. He united with the Hebron Presbyterian Church in early life and lived a long and Christian life throughout his long and useful life. He was one of the stalwart pillars of this church and a champion of the cause it represented until the end.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. R. Foster, Presbyterian pastor of the Commerce and Hebron Churches, Sunday morning at 11 o'clock at the historic Hebron Presbyterian Church. Interment was in the churchyard cemetery.

The Ashland Community, Franklin County and the state of Georgia have lost one of their finest and most useful citizens in the passing of this splendid character, a man of highest and noblest ideals who remained throughout the long years to his family, his church, his community and his state.
