Novelist and Editor. Henry Harland was an American writer who moved to London in 1890. He wrote novels under the pseudonym of Sidney Luska, many of which dealt with Jewish life. Harland himself was not Jewish, but pretended to be from St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1894, he met artist Aubrey Beardsley in a doctor's office and later that year became co-editor of "The Yellow Book" with him. Influenced by the Aesthetic movement, Harland returned to writing novels after achieving his "Yellow Book" fame. His most popular book was "The Cardinal's Snuff-Box" (1900). Harland moved to Italy in 1903, looking for a better climate for his health. This was unsuccessful, and after a long battle with tuberculosis he died in 1905.
