He was born in Bozeman on March 1, 1915, to Harley and Anna (Plumlee) Clinton.
He received his schooling at Heeb School and then graduated from Manhattan High School. He later attended trade school in Los Angeles.
He worked for the Milwaukee Road and operated school buses in Manhattan for some time before going to work for the Montana Highway Department. He retired in 1977 after 30 years of service. At the time of his retirement he held the job of scaleman for the state.
On Nov. 22, 1939, he married Myrtle E. Seeman in Manhattan.
He was a long-time and past master of the Manhattan Lodge No. 59 AF & AM.
He is survived by his wife of Manhattan; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Larry and Sharon Clinton of Seattle, Wash., Dale and Donna Clinton of Olathe, Kan., Bill and Jean Clinton of Bozeman, and Stanley Clinton of Great Falls; a sister Jesse Bryan of Vancouver, Wash.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Lulu.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday at the Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel. Cremains will be interred at Meadowview Cemetery, Manhattan.
Memorials in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
