JOHN ROBERT BOLINGER, SR..

John Robert "Bob" Bolinger Sr., 83, a lifelong Decatur resident, died at 3:19 p.m. Sunday in Woodcrest Retirement Community.

He was born in Decatur on January 31, 1921, to Peter and Florence Meyer Bolinger.

He married Ethel Miller on November 17, 1945; she died on December 8, 2001.

He retired in 1983 from the former General Electric Co. plant in Decatur after a 46-year career and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in England and Panama. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur.

He was a member of Moose Lodge 1311 in Decatur and Knights of Columbus Lodge 864 in Decatur.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann Bolinger of Indianapolis; three sons, John R. Bolinger Jr. and Timothy P. Bolinger, both of Decatur, and William E. Bolinger of New Haven; a sister, Patricia Shell of Decatur; two brothers, Arthur Ted Bolinger of Fort Wayne and Edward Drum of Decatur, Illinois; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A grandson is deceased.

A prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Decatur, with military graveside rites by the color guard from American Legion Post 43 in Decatur.

Visiting hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a rosary service at 4 p.m.

Preferred memorials are to the church and to the Adams County Diabetes Connection.
