The son of Addison E. Percy and Harriet E. Bloodough. Hubert married Helen Whittier Priest on 15 Jul 1924 at Jefferson County, New York. Their wedding ceremony was performed at the Bethany Methodist Episcopal church by Rev. Walter G. Wilmshurst. They had two children named Jack and Beverly Ann.

Hubert G. Percy, 37, salesman in the dry goods store of Smith & Percy, Inc., ended his life Tuesday night by hanging himself with a rope in the basement of the family residence, 439 Grand avenue. His body was found by his wife at 9:10 p.m., following her return from a short walk and after discovering the body, summoned Patrick S. Shannon and Mrs. William J. Sexton, neighbors. Dr. Horace C. Montgomery was summoned and he notified the district attorney.
Mr. Percy had been despondent and had previously threatened to end his life, the district attorney said.
Hubert Glen Percy was born at Clayton, Dec. 10, 1898, a son of Mrs. Harriet E. Bloodough Percy and the late Addison E. Percy. His father was a well known contractor of this city.
Mr. Percy came to Watertown about 31 years ago and attended the Cooper street and the Watertown High schools. For more than eight years he was employed at the old A. Bushnell & Company store, starting as a package boy and later becoming a salesman of domestics and linens. He became will known as a dry goods salesman.
About 1922 he entered the employ of the old Charles H. Anthony dry goods store, where he served as buyer of linens and as a salesman. In July, 1928, Smith & Percy, Inc., was formed by Mr. Percy's brother, Harold S. Percy, and the late George M. Smith as successor to the Anthony store and since then Mr. Percy had been associated with the Smith & Percy store as linen buyer and salesman.
On July 7, 1924, Mr. Percy married Miss Helen Whittier Priest, then of 439 Grand avenue. Mr. Percy then lived at 306 Gale street. The wedding ceremony was performed at the Bethany Methodist Episcopal church by Rev. Walter G. Wilmshurst, then pastor of the church. Both Mr. Percy and his bride were at the time singers in the choir of the church and they were the fifth and sixth members of the choir to be married within ten days.
Mr. Percy was well known as a tenor member of different quartets of the city. He formerly sang in the choir of Trinity Episcopal church. He once was a member of the Percy Brothers quartet, which was composed of himself, J. Ward Percy, Robert R. Percy and David L. Percy.
He was a member of Bethany Methodist Episcopal church.
Surviving him, besides his widow, are his mother, Mrs. Harriet E. Percy, 306 Gale street; two children, Jack, 10, and Beverly Ann, 5; and five brothers, Leslie M., J. Ward, Robert R., David L., and Harold S. Percy, all of this city. The latter is president of Smith & Percy, Inc.
The body was removed to the Northam & Fox Funeral home and will be taken Thursday afternoon to the home of his mother, 306 Gale street, where private funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30. Rev. Edgar O. Spaven, pastor of the Bethany Methodist Episcopal church, will officiate. Burial will be made in the North Watertown cemetery.
Friends may call at the home of his mother Thursday evening from 7 to 9.
The following men will act as bearers at the funeral: Percy J. Denman, Richard Stearns and Christian C. Barben, employees of the Smith & Percy store, and William E. O'Riley, William J. Sexton and Chauncey M. Dalley.
