Maskell "Max" Lee (Weed) Stone, 92, of Purcell, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Sunday, May 22, 2011, in Purcell. She was born on March 4, 1919, in Carolan, Arkansas, to L.C. Weed and Mattie (Davis) Weed. Max married George W. Stone on May 15, 1937, in Byars, Oklahoma.

As a young girl she moved with her family from Arkansas to Oklahoma in a horse drawn wagon as her father followed the oil fields as a roughneck. From these humble beginnings she was able as an adult, after raising her four sons to travel to four continents, visiting Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South America, and several European countries. She also visited almost every one of the States in the U. S.

She is survived by her Husband of 74 years, four sons, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, two brothers and one grandson.

She was named for the flowers of the Mescal Bean plant that grows primarily in West Texas (where her father was from) Problem was they knew the name of the plant, just did not know how it was spelled. Mescal became Maskell.
