Death came to Mrs. Lavada Fredricksen, age 101, of St. Peter on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Grandview Good Samaritan Center in St. Peter.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Union Presbyterian Church in St. Peter, with Rev. Andrew Davis officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Greenhill Cemetery, St. Peter, in a three-generation plot. Memorials preferred to Union Presbyterian Church, the Treaty Site History Center or the donor's choice. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lavada was born May 5, 1910, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to Annie (Farness) and Milo Fowler. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1928 and from the St. Peter State Hospital School of Nursing in 1931. She practiced her profession for many years. Lavada married Harding N. Fredricksen (a contractor and builder) on June 16, 1934, in St. Peter with Dr. J.P. Uhler performing the ceremony in his home. Dr. Uhler also married Harding's parents, Helga and Ole of St. Peter in 1906. Mrs. Fredricksen was a member of Union Presbyterian Church in St. Peter, active in the Order of the Eastern Star (past Worthy Matron), Liberty Rebekah Lodge (past President), the Royal Neighbors of America (past President) and the St. Peter Community Hospital Auxiliary which she organized in September of 1954. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, playing bridge and especially enjoyed being with her family. She was also and avid baseball fan; especially of the Minnesota Twins.

Lavada is survived by her daughter: Janet Hoffmann of St. Peter; a granddaughter: Theresa (Wayne) Bjorklund of Norseland; two grandsons: Burt Hoffmann Jr. (fiancée Julie Prust) of St. Peter and Brian Hoffmann of Grinnell, IA; 8 great-grandchildren: Astyn, Holly, Lincoln and Shannon Bjorklund, Benjamin and Alissa Lavada Hoffmann and Joshua and Garrett Hoffmann; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harding in 1977; an infant daughter; three brothers: Archie, Walter and Edwin Fowler; a sister: Naomi Eppeland; two half-brothers; and three half-sisters; and son-in-law: Burt F. Hoffmann Sr.
