Joseph P. Castellini Sr. was born in Wilmington, Delaware on June 30, 1933 and
six months later was on his way to San Diego. A loyal member of the US Army, he
served in the 82nd Airborne division in Korea from March 6, 1951 through March
5, 1954.

He founded Castellini and Sons, a painting and contracting company in 1968. His
company was active in many major painting projects of several older buildings in
the Gaslamp District and many commercial and industrial properties in the
greater San Diego area.

His large family loved him very much. He is survived by his wife Norma, whom he
married on June 30, 1956, his sons Joe Paul, Anthony (deceased August 1998) and
Rocky, his stepdaughter Sandra and his eight grandchildren. Joe, lovingly
referred to as 'Poppy' with his wild imagination, fun loving and generous
nature, loved to stage amazing and creative productions to entertain his family
and friends, and particularly his grandchildren.

He went to great lengths crafting a Christmas village with log cabins, electric
trains and his stuffed bear collection. Later, he built a life sized old western
town complete with gunfights on his property in Boulevard.

Visitation will be on Tues, July 15, 2003 (today) from 2-4:30pm at Conrad Lemon
Grove Mortuary. A Vigil Service will be held on Tues at 6:30pm, and the Funeral
Mass will be on Wed, July 16 at 9:30am, both services will be at St. John of the
Cross Catholic Church, 8086 Broadway in Lemon Grove. Interment will follow at
Holy Cross Cemetery in San Diego, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family greatly
appreciates any donations made to the American Cancer Society. Published in The
San Diego Union Tribune on July 15, 2003
