Helene M. (LeBlanc) Bastarache, 94, of 32 Hospital Hill Rd., Gardner and formerly of 59 Regan St., Gardner died Tuesday, November 16th in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner, following an illness.
Born in St. Damien, NB, Canada on August 1, 1910, she was the daughter of Fidele and Marie (LeBlanc) LeBlanc. She came to the United States in 1963.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. She was a Gold Star Mother. Mrs. Bastarache was born legally blind but with family members help, she was able to enjoy knitting.
Her husband, Ambroise J. Bastarache, died in 1989.
She leaves 2 sons, Zephyr Bastarache of Moncton, NB, Canada, Hubert Bastarache of Fitchburg; 4 daughters, Helena Bellefeuille of Leominster, Dorilla Bastarache of Gardner, Diane Johnson of Rexton, NB, Canada, Rosella Maillet of St. John, NB, Canada; 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Fidele Bastarache who died in Vietnam in 1968, a daughter, Leona Bastarache of Rexton, NB, Canada; 3 brothers, Aurele LeBlanc of St. Damien, NB, Canada, Alyre LeBlanc of Leominster, Irenee LeBlanc of NB, Canada; and 7 sisters, Leona Kirby, Annie Cormier, Eva Roy, Irene Bourgeois all of Gardner, Virginie LeBlanc of St. Antoine, NB, Canada, Azelie LeBlanc of Montreal, PQ, Canada and Roseanne LeBlanc of Bouctouche, NB, Canada.
Funeral services held Saturday, November 20th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
