Evan was the fourth child of Max and Zella Fonnesbeck. When Evan was almost a year old, he caught the measles from his brother, Tillman. Then he came down with the whooping cough (pertussis) from his grandmother. This weakened him so much that he then contracted pneumonia. He died three days after his first birthday. The only photos Max and Zella had of this little son were taken of him in the casket. A cute little blond boy who had a strong resemblance to his brother, Delbert.
When I was a little girl visiting with my Grandmother, she told me about Evan, showed me the photos of him, and then
gave me a memorial card made with this poem on it:

"We had a little treasure once,
He was our joy and pride,
We loved him, ah perhaps too well,
For soon he slept and died.
All is dark within our dwelling,
Lonely are our hearts today,
For the one we loved so dearly,
Has forever passed away."

I feel her sorrow through these words and thank her for sharing it with me and trusting me with that 'touch' she had with her little son.

Funeral services were held in the Fourth ward meeting house yesterday afternoon over the remains of Evan James, the one year old child of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Fonnesbeck.

A great many friends and relatives attended the services paying respect to the deceased and showing their appreciation of such good citizens as Mr. and Mrs. Fonnesbeck. The choir was in attendance and rendered some appropriate music. The invocation was offered by elder L. C. Peterson. Elders Mecham, N. D. Thatcher, Wallace Strong and Bishop L. M. Howell all offered words of consolation to the bereaved and each spoke of the glorious time when we will be permitted to meet our loved ones again. The speakers were all very good friends of Mr. and Mrs. Fonnesbeck and they spoke of their love toward each other and for their children.

Second Counselor Charles O. Peterson offered the benediction and at the grave Bishop Benson dedicated the grave. The flowers were very beautiful.
