Max was the twelfth child of Martinus and Laurentine Enevoldsen Fonnesbeck. He was born in Trinity, Copenhagen, Denmark.

He came to the U.S. as a child of about 5 with his father, Martinus, and brother, Jens. He grew up in Cache Valley and worked in the Fonnesbeck Knitting Works where he also met Zella Bissegger whom he married in 1911--there are two dates: one through the Utah records indicate March 21--the familysearch records say March 1. March it is no matter the date!

Grandpa used to sit at the kitchen table playing solitaire. I was fascinated, so he taught me how. He taught me how to fish although I must admit to not being a very good fisherman! With Grandma, he would go up to the Third Dam in Logan Canyon to fish. Their basement refrigerator was full of previous catches. Yum!
