Funeral services for Alfred M. Haanstad, 82, of 817 Second Ave., who died Wednesday night in Luther Hospital, will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. from the First Lutheran Church, the Rev, 0. C. Aune officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.

Mr. Haanstad was born in Strum and attended Eau Claire public schools. He was a bookkeeper for the Sven Lund Clothing store after graduation from business college. He then founded the Haanstad & Johnson Mens Clothing Store, on Bar stow St. After operating the store for many years he sold it in 1927. He then joined the Wisconsin State Motor Vehicle Department as a special investigator and auto license inspector. In 1939 he pioneered the Wisconsin State Traffic Patrol and was promoted to the position of captain of the Wisconsin State PatroL At the time of his retirement, in February of 1955, he was captain of the 6th District Traffic Patrol. He was a former member of the County Board. He belonged to the First Lutheran Church S.A.F., Knights of Pythias, Eau Claire Consistory, and Lodge No. 112 F. & A. M. He is survived by two sons, Wayne, St Louis, Mo., and DeAlton of Eau Claire, a sister, Miss Mallie Haanstad, Eau Claire, three grandchildren, seyeral nieces and nephews.
