Obit for Delancy Sutlief: Waseca county's earliest living settler, Delancy Sutlief, departed this life at his home in Wilton, Monday morning. He had been in a paralyzed condition for some time previous and his death was not unexpected.
Mr. Sutlief has been a resident of this county steadily since 1855, a period of 58 years. He was the oldest son of Asa G. Sutlief the first white settler of this county.
He was born in Ohio State about 71 years ago, and came to this county when a lad. His father settled on a claim in Wilton, and there Delancey [sic] was raised and has lived all his life.
He was married twice, his first wife being a Miss Rachel Winters, to whom he was married in 1868. She died about ten years later. About 4 years afterwards he married again, his second wife being Miss Jane Scott. She survives him, together with three daughters and a son by his first wife and a son by his second wife. [sic] One of the daughters resides in Washington state, another in New Richland and the other in North Dakota, while the two sons are in Wilton. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Reeze Nelson, and a half brother, B. G. Sutlief of Wilton. [buried in Lot 37]
Mr. Sutlief enlisted in the 1st Minnesota heavy artillery in 1865.
He was an honest, industrious citizen, performing well his duties as a pioneer. His life is indissolubly linked with the early history of our county. (WJR, Nov. 12, 1913)
