CHANUTE DAILY TRIBUNE, AUGUST 01, 1907

OBITUARY--It is with a sorrowful heart that we take up our pen to record the visit of the Death Angel to the home of Frank Bryson since our last issue.
Elizabeth Rachel, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Berkenmier, was born July 29, 1875 and died July 25, 1907, at her home 2 miles north and 1/2 mile east of Morehead, aged 31 years, 11 months and 27 days. Deceased was married to Frank Bryson in January, 1896. She had been afflicted with creeping paralysis for 2 years, which finally resulted in death. She leaves a husband and 3 children, Bessie, Pearl and Viola, an aged mother, Mrs. Berkenmier of Kansas City, 3 sisters, Mrs. Mattie Scott, Mrs. Sarah Anderson, Miss Christiana Berkenmier, all three living in Kansas City and 3 brothers, Barney of Cherryvale, Henry of Oklahoma City and William of Morehead, besides a host of friends and relatives to mourn her loss.
Sorrow always follows in the track of the destroyer but in this case a double portion has been given out. What is home without a mother? Who can hush the sick and fretful child, lulling it into the ambrosial bowers of dreamland with that low, sweet melody lent by the angels to steal away the petty sorrows of childhood but a mother? Mother, the holiest name uttered by man save one, must hereafter be meaningless to these little ones.
She leaves a large circle of friends who offer to the bereaved family their sincere sympathy in this the greatest hour of sorrow.
Funeral services were conducted at the house Saturday, July 27th, by Rev. D. C. Shields of Thayer after which the remains were laid beside her three little ones who have passed on before.
This young wife was idolized by loved ones in her home, But sorrow takes the place of joy, for our dear Lizzie is gone.
Brothers and sisters helped by her you will not soon forget, The merry laugh and tender words that linger with you yet.
How we prayed that we might keep our dear Lizzie from Death's sleep.
Closely by her we have stood, hoping we might do some good.
But our efforts were in vain, God saw fit his child to claim.
And our hearts are bruised and torn, for our darling one is gone.
Rest, dear Lizzie, sweetly rest with thy hands upon thy breast.
Sleep now holds thy eyelids down, you a peaceful rest have found.
