Dr. William E. B. Davis was born in Trussville, Jefferson Co., AL on November 25, 1863. In 1884, he received his degree from the Bellevue Hospital Medical College in New York. He and his brother Dr. John D. S. Davis established the "The Southern Surgical and Gynecological Association", which was organized on December 15, 1886 in Birmingham.

He married Gertrude Mustin on August 12, 1897 in Birmingham and they had 2 daughters, Margaret Anna Davis Harris (b. July, 1898) and Mary Elizabeth Davis Batchelder (b. Sept., 1900). Sadly, on February 24, 1903, William was struck by a train in Birmingham and killed instantly.

The bronze plaque on his monument reads, "Secretary of the Southern Surgical and Gynecological Association, 1887-1900; President, 1902; President Tri-State Medical Society of Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee, 1889; President of the American Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, 1901; Chairman, 1900, of The Section of Obstetrics and Diseases of Women and Vice-President of the American Medical Association, 1901; Honorable Member of the Medical Society of New York, and of the Louisiana Medical Association; Honorary President of The Section on Abdominal Surgery Pan-American Medical Congress, 1893 and Vice-President of Congress of 1896; Fellow of the British Gynecological Society, Professor of Gynecology and Abdominal Surgery of Birmingham Medical College."
