Indian Wars Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Wars with the Plains Indians as a Sergeant in Company H, 7th United States Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Little Big Horn River, Montana on June 25, 1876. His citation reads "With 3 comrades during the entire engagement courageously held a position that secured water for the command". His Medal was awarded to him on October 5, 1878
