He was a graduate of the Dunwoody Institute, Minneapolis, Minn., where he learned the trade of baking. He served in the Aleutian Islands during World War II.
He married Kathleen Wiesner on Jan. 15, 1942.
He owned and operated Neuburger's Bakery in both Ellis and Hays. He was the founder and former owner of Western Aluminum and Glass, Hays. He was an Ellis city councilman from 1973 to 1977, serving as acting mayor in 1975. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church Council, where he served as president for two years. He was a member of the American Legion, Hays, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and St. Mary Catholic Church, all of Ellis.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; four sons, Glen and Dean, both of Hays, Tom, Lawrence, and Mark, Fountain Hills Ariz.; four daughters, Billie Fuller, Salina, Peggy Waldschmidt, Ellis, Kathleen Morris, Newton, and Donetta Robben, Hays; a brother, Ted, Pratt; two sisters, Dorothy Rupp, Pueblo, Colo., and Janet "Susie" Giannone, Grand Junction, Colo.; 25 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel; five brothers, Arthur, Arnold, Norbert, Ernie and Richard; and a sister, Marie Helget.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis, with Father Kevin Weber officiating; burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Wasinger Funeral Home, Ellis, with a wake service at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis, or the Mary Elizabeth Maternity Home, Hays.
