A hand written "family record", source unknown, lists this daughter. That list is the only reference I can find for this girl. If the list is correct, then she must have died before the 1850 census, as she is not shown with her parents.

A few years ago when we visited her parents' graves, there were two small, square cement blocks, one with the initials "SM" at the foot of the family plot. I believe this is a memorial to this young daughter who died before the family left Iowa. When I returned in 2011 to take a picture of the marker, it was gone.
-----------
Some time after I posted the above statement, a very kind gentleman who lives in the Medford area went out to the cemetery, found my two "lost" cement markers plus two others, and took pictures for me. The long cement block refers to Mrs E J (Eliza) Hamlin. I wonder if the one marked "M M" could refer to the baby daughter that died during the family trek west on the Oregon trail ........ ?
